"I WAS TRAPPED IN A TRACTOR BEAM OF AWE WHEN I LAID EYES ON SHWOOD." – WIRED magazine

Based in Portland, Oregon Shwood creates handcrafted wooden eyewear using fine exotic hardwoods.

Shwood's in-house manufacturing process merges precision technology with classic skilled craftsmanship to create a timeless art form. Every step from veneering and precision lens cutting, to shaping and finishing is conducted in our own Portland-based workshop to promise an entirely handcrafted eyewear piece.

In 2009, Shwood began making eyeglass frames with sustainably harvested fresh woods, such as oak, zebra wood, walnut, maple, mahogany and rosewood. The Portland-based company now sells all over the world, from Thailand to Turkey, to Egypt to Estonia, and now, Blacksburg, Virginia.

“There’s a lot of demand for things made of wood — watches, iPhone covers. It’s like a return to nature,” says Sergio Ora, the Italian agent for Shwood.

The company also recently launched a limited line of (surprisingly light) stone frames made of slate with a walnut interior. Fusing genuine slate with premium Birch wood, the new Stone Collection is our most innovative product yet. Hand-poured pewter inlays complete the look, striking the perfect balance between rugged and refined, as we continue our perpetual quest to experiment with nature. Each pair comes packaged with a custom felt pouch with embroidered leather patch. LIMITED TO 200 PAIRS, and available for a limited time at Blacksburg Eye.
