Optometry Giving Sight: Seeing Eye to Eye
Please find out more about our partnering with Optometry Giving Sight
670 million people are needlessly blind or vision impaired simply because they lack access to the glasses or eye care they need.
We have paired with Optometry Giving Sight to help provide eye exams and glasses to millions of people in need. We actively take donations at our office, and routinely run promotions like "buy one give one" that support this wonderful charity. For only $5 you can provide a pair of glasses to someone in need. Help us with a donation and we will do the rest.
Lion's Club International
The Lions Club is a service organization that Dr. Dovie has been involved with since 2000. Their motto is "We Serve." Lions Club programs include sight conservation, hearing and speech conservation, diabetes awareness, youth outreach, international relations, environmental issues, and other programs. Dr. Dovie was a founding member of the Campus Lions Club at his optometry school, PCO (now Salus Univeristy). Though running a new business and family life have limited his involvement as a full-time member in Blacksburg, he has been involved providing free or discounted services to those in need referred from the local Lions Club groups.
Blacksburg Eye also collects used glasses, sunglasses, and cases. These are cleaned, cataloged, and distributed to those in need. Please consider stopping in to our office to donate your used eye wear.
Free Clinic of the New River Valley
Since Blacksburg Eye’s inception, Dr. Dovie has volunteered his services completely free of charge to patients referred in from the clinic to those in need. We are the only eye care provider in the area providing eye care completely free of charge to these patients in need.
Health Care Fairs and Screenings
Over the past few years Dr. Dovie and Blacksburg Eye have been part of numerous community-lead and work-related health care fairs and screenings, providing vision and glaucoma screening, as well as handouts and information regarding eye health and vision care. If your organization is looking for an eye doctor, optician or eye care provider to participate in an event please contact us!
Blacksburg Eye has and will continue to respond to as many requests for donations as they can. We have supported numerous community organizations, schools, and clubs by donating items for auction; including eye exams, prescription eye wear, designer sunglasses, and monetary gifts.
Since 2010 Dr. Dovie has volunteered contributing physician for the website All Experts.com, answering questions related to eye and vision disorders from patients around the globe.
